Safe and Secure Schools
The Safe & Secure Schools (S3) program is helping school administrators ensure their schools are safer environments. Started by the National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM) in 2003, the ultimate goal of the program is to create software for school administrators across the country to pinpoint their most pressing safety concerns, and then provide solutions for the problems.
NASFM has assembled an impressive array of school districts to help test and develop the new software. The latest addition to the S3 program is Alaska's Anchorage School District, while Goffstown School District in New Hampshire, Morris County schools in New Jersey and Parkway School District in Missouri were among the first districts on board. They joined existing participants Alameda County in California, New York City Public Schools and Orange County Public Schools in Florida.
Some schools, including Morris County Schools, Natrona School District in Wyoming, New York City Schools and Sunol Glen Unified School District received the chance to participate in an exciting S3 pilot project that provided fire safety materials, Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters and intumescent paint, for their schools.
School administrators and other personnel across the country can help the S3 program as well. These individuals are encouraged to visit our online hazards-ranking survey and provide insights on their leading safety and security concerns.
School administrators and other personnel are encouraged to visit the S3 section of the NASFM web site on a regular basis to receive updates on this cutting-edge program through our bi-monthly newsletter, press releases and other S3 publications.
